| Recent News and Funding Opportunities | | - Government Technology Magazine, interview
- Andrew Rodgers from Chattennooga connected LaBar, William (CGI Federal) with new CGI affiliate
- Chattenooga wants to deploy some of our sensors
- Good from US Ignite perspective, sensors from two cities streaming data into one data mgmt system
- Delcambre, Matthew (University of Louisiana at Lafayette) US Ignite would also like it more if we use a Genie rack as well
- Kansas City may also be interested (Jonathon Wagner)
- Have an innovation district downtown, smart lighting, wifi, etc.
- This is where they would be installed
- Proposal: give partners one built sensor under the understanding that they use our specs to build their own, based on our open source hardware.
- America Soc. of Civil Engineers has asked Carlee Alm-LaBar (Lafayette LA) and Warren G. Abadie (Lafayette LA) to speak at their conference in New Orleans
- South Coast Air Quality Management District has invited CGI to speak at their meeting AQ Sensor Spec meeting in September:
- US Ignite Gigabit Application Development Fund
- $10k available
- Proposals due third week of September
- Couple of pages, 5 sections
- Should submit two proposals, one for air, one for water
- Delcambre, Matthew (University of Louisiana at Lafayette) will take the lead to write.
- Ideas
- AQ
- Wireless and switches needed for USGS site, or for other sites depending on LUS network topology
- This will depend on needs coming out of LUS Network meeting on Wed. Sept. 6

| Hardware (Sensor, Servers, POC Assembly, Network, Deployment Strategy) | | - Prototype platform status
- Next round of sensors have been ordered, have arrived
- We are writing code to read data off of the sensors as we speak
- TODO: Need to detail sensor calibration protocol
- Ron Evans (EPA), Christin Benedict (EPA) are available as technical experts for calibration
- Prototype sensor status – health and monitoring
- Continue to working well without downtime since most recent code changes
- Hardware fabrication
- Met August 11th, with UL and David Thibodeaux STEM academy to plan fabrication
- David Thibodeaux students will be available to help with fabrication in October and November
- Next status update meeting with DTSTEM et al. will be Friday Sept. 8th 3:00-3:30
- Meeting notes:
- LCG, LUS Fiber and Network/Hardware Planning update
- Private LUS sensor network will be terminated in Stephens Hall at UL
- Gene Fields CIO is committed to doing what we need in Stephens Hall
- Plan to use GENIE hardware provided by UL for Gateway
- 3 potential Network Topologies
- Option 1: Use existing LCG traffic network
- Option 2: New LEaRN VPLS via LUSFiber
- Option 3: LEaRN commercial Internet, one connection per traffic cabinet
- Terry Huval still arranging meetings w/Mayor and CIO on Options 2 and 3
- Hopefully this will happen in the next few weeks
- Next LEaRN-LUS networking meeting is August 23rd
- Future Sensor Deployments
- Status updates on UL Research Input to help guide deployment intersection locations
- Gretchen L Vanicor (LA.edu) is working on a list of potential locations based on advice from Dean Jaffey(sp?)
- e.g. locate at Daycares and Hospitals; Cajun Field bus stops (where buses idle); place in remote UL properties, e.g. ecology center, Crowley Energy Research Center (near rice and soybean fields), St. Martinville
- Gretchen L Vanicor (LA.edu) produced a spreadsheet, which can be found here: Sensor locations
- Miles, Brian (CGI Federal) is working on getting these into a map
- Reference Google map from Gretchen's e-mail
- Specific locations need to be selected from a subset of these
- Need to determine network options available for non-traffic signal sites
- Cox seems to be receptive to cooperating for deployments to LPSS and other places not served by LUS
- Gretchen L Vanicor (LA.edu), Warren G. Abadie (Lafayette LA), Miles, Brian (CGI Federal) met July 18th to go through the master list and start refining placement
- Came up with a prioritized list of sites
- Met last week to add the traffic sites and to fill gaps in coverage across the Parish
- Latest proposed sensor site map is here:
- UL Sensors
- LPSS Sensors
- Trying to set up a meeting with Shauna LeBlanc to logistics
- Tentative meeting Thursday August 24th, 11:00
- Status updates on Coordination of sensor deployments with LDEQ/USGS
- Miles, Brian (CGI Federal) / LaBar, William (CGI Federal) will follow-up.
- LaBar, William (CGI Federal) had a recent note from Bob Bailey (LDEQ)
- Lease agreement between LDEQ and USGS was never finalized
- Update from Blundell, Ben (University of Louisiana at Lafayette) re. network access:
- I'm scheduling a site visit next week to verify the USGS network closets
and cable plant necessary to support the Wifi extension(s) needed to reach the LDEQ building site. I gathered all the information over a phone conversation with them a while back. [USGS] stated that they had the necessary connectivity paths available but I would like to verify things with a site visit. After the visit, I will be able to determine timelines but I think it's feasible to match that mid-September date (give or take a week or so). - We would need Wifi APs. Our NIRC facility has had great experiences with
Ubiquiti Networks APs, particularly the Nanostation M5 (for network extensions over Wifi, etc.). I will investigate our AP options and let you know.
- For a small, localized deployment, such as the USGS
and LDEQ areas, Ubiquiti units would be a cost effective choice.
- Status updates on Time frames / Quantities for upcoming future deployments
- Target mid September for placing another 1/2 dozen prototype sensors
- Status Update Mobile Sensors
- Alghamdi, Taghreed (LEARN) is working at CGI this summer on mobile sensors
- Working on prototype car-mounted sensor
- Will work with Warren G. Abadie (Lafayette LA) to discuss potential for bus-mounted sensors
- It is possible to query some hardware on the buses to obtain current location
- We could use the bus Wifi to transmit data
- Update status on Water sensors brainstorming
- Use Cases and Ancillary Data Update (Ridgeway, Terysa (CGI))
- LCG Data Access

| Partner Outreach | | - Weather.com Digital Meteorologist Kari Strenfel contacted LaBar, William (CGI Federal) about Weather Underground expanding their Private Weather Station Network to include Air Quality data. They are interested in including data from the LEaRN network.
- Do we want to participate?
- Only if we can handle data quality concerns/calibration
- How do we handle data quality concerns?
- Other questions/concerns/comments?
- McMahon, Ethan (EPA) would probably be interested in this as part of data management and data quality
- CPEX (Center for Planning Excellence, LA-based non-profit) Smart Growth Conference November 2017
